Minimum wage to rise


The Fair Work Commission has announced they will increase the national minimum wage by 3.5 per cent from 1 July 2018.

The current national minimum hourly wage of $18.29 will rise to $18.93 per hour once the change comes into effect.

Modern award minimum wage rates are also set to rise by 3.5 per cent. However, the casual loading rate will remain unchanged at 25 per cent.

According to the Commission, the national rate of full-time employment has risen by 3.1 per cent (higher than the 1 per cent growth over 2017).

Currently, more than two million Australians workers are on a minimum wage income.
